Keynote Speaker - Kim Chandler MMus BMusEd AMusA

Kim ChandlerKim Chandler is a highly-respected UK-based contemporary vocal specialist and pedagogue. Originally from Brisbane, Kim completed a classical Bachelor of Music Education degree at Queensland University and started her teaching career in 1988. She also enjoyed a successful performing career as one of Australia’s busiest session singers before deciding to further her prospects by relocating to London in 1999.

Kim quickly established herself on the competitive London music scene in the dual capacity of session singer and vocal coach – she is now considered to be amongst the top practitioners in both fields. Kim has a Masters of Music in Performance (with Distinction) from the London College of Music, and in 2008 became a Director of the esteemed British Voice Association.  She also regularly presents at high-profile international voice conferences throughout Europe.

Academically, Kim holds a part-time senior lectureship in contemporary singing at the London College of Music on their pioneering ‘Popular Music Performance’ degree - the first of its type in the UK. She was also the Academic Head at the UK’s leading contemporary vocal school VOCALTECH from 2003-2006 where she continues to teach in a consultative/freelance capacity.

Kim has a busy private vocal studio in West London where she coaches signed artists, professional singers and other vocal coaches. Her international presence in the field of contemporary singing is maintained through the wide reach of her innovative “Funky ‘n Fun” vocal exercise CD training series which sets new standards in relevant, effective singing exercises. Her media work as a singing ‘expert’ includes regular presence on national TV shows, live radio and in industry magazines.

As a performer of note, Kim has a successful performing career spanning over 20 years. Aside from her voice being featured on literally thousands of jingles in many countries, she has also sung with some of the world’s most famous artists such as The Bee Gees, Michael Jackson, Natalie Cole, Michael McDonald, Bjork, Michael Bolton, Neil Diamond, Rick Astley, Puff Daddy, Barry Manilow etc. She regularly performs at London’s most prestigious venues, and even had the honour of singing for the Queen’s Staff Party at Buckingham Palace.
