The year 2008 heralds an exciting time for the WA Chapter. We not only have an array of interesting events planned for the state chapter alone, but we also shall host the National Voice Conference coinciding with the ANATS 20th Birthday celebration. We have been working hard to ensure this National Conference receives all the desired merriement and revelry called for such an auspicious occasion.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE
The National Conference entitled “Sing into Spring” shall be held from Thursday 18th to Sunday 21st September. It will be held at the University Club of Western Australia and the internationally renowned Fraser’s Restaurant. The central locations for the conference have been chosen to provide the delegates with both the ease of travel and a magnificent view of Perth and the Swan River in the Springtime.

We are proud to announce our international guest presenter is Jeanette Lovetri. We are currently negotiating with interstate and local presenters, our aim to ensure there is a fair representation of each of the main vocal styles, classical, music theatre and contemporary. Details regarding the conference programme shall be published as soon as the information is finalised. We will endeavour to keep you updated as the conference events unfold.

STATE BUSINESS
On the 16th March, the West Australian Chapter of ANATS and the AMEB joined forces to provide a Workshop designed for the States young singers. Held at the Currajong Theatre, the AMEB premises in Claremont, this event was a resounding success.

Launching the new 2008 AMEB “Singing for Lesisure” Syllabus this workshop highlighted the importance of a new “breed” of singers opting to undertake exams for personal growth and development. The workshop also provided a forum for effective performance feedback for singers with upcoming exams.

Please remember the next important event for the WA Chapter is “The Performer’s Club”. This will take place on the 8th June at 2pm, Church of Christ, corner of Dalkeith Road and Edwards Street, Nedlands. For a $5 entry fee the students are given the opportunity to perform in front of a friendly and supportive audience. A professional accompanist will be provided to play the students’ required pieces. This activity is beneficial in developing the skills of the young performer. Parents and friends are most welcome!

SCHOLARSHIP PRIZE

Once again the WA Chapter will be sponsoring the Under 18 scholarship prize for the 2008 North of Perth Music Festival. This award is aimed at encouraging the development of Western Australia’s talented ANATS students. Please remember to register for the annual singing competition.
