Updated: Feb 2, 2022

The art of improvisation is present in many styles of music, each containing different parameters, style elements and methods. So how do we know what to do and how do we teach these styles effectively and authentically? Join our three experts as they teach you the ins and outs of improvisation across three different styes of music: Dr David Greco - classical ornamentation

Pat Powell - Pop/RnB melisma Trish Delaney Brown - jazz improvisation

Classical Ornamentation International Baritone and researcher of Historical Singing Practices, David Greco will present a lecture on ornamentation and improvisation practices from the Early Baroque through to the Romantic era. His talk will provide documented evidence of historical singing practices both written and audio and provide helpful hints for practitioners and teachers interested in singing what’s ‘not’ on the page.

Pop/RnB Melisma R'n'b/Reggae legend Pat Powell will give you a practical guide to the art of melisma, licks, runs in the RnB pop style. The workshop will include the development of these styles, including information about black vocal history through the ages. This will be an interactive workshop and Pat aims to send you home with simple exercises to support your teaching.
